What is Kisspeptin?

Kisspeptin-10 is a 10-amino-acid fragment of the KISS1 gene product and the natural ligand of the KISS1R (GPR54) receptor. Kisspeptin neurons sit at the very top of the reproductive hormone cascade — they are the master upstream trigger for GnRH release — which is why the peptide has become a cornerstone of modern reproductive endocrinology.
