What is SS-31?

SS-31 (Elamipretide) is a Szeto-Schiller tetrapeptide that concentrates in the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it binds cardiolipin — the phospholipid that anchors the machinery of cellular energy production. That selective targeting has made it one of the most studied compounds in mitochondrial medicine.
